The man who is fondly called Leo is a capable, innovative and data-driven senior marketing executive with extensive experience in the field of online strategy direction in the Consumer and B2B markets.
This alumni of Trisakti University and San Francisco State University started her career in the Silicon Valley of the United States at a time when e-commerce began to thrive there. For nearly 20 years Leo has led the marketing department at major consumer brands such as HP, Macy’s, eBay, Walmart and Aegon.
Until finally, in early 2021, Leo decided to return to his homeland, Indonesia, to work, through his title as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) in one of the largest e-commerce platforms in Indonesia, JD.ID. The following is an excerpt from the interview with Leo Haryono.

How do you see the market in e-commerce and how is JD.ID standing?
During the pandemic, consumer behavior has shifted from shopping in malls or supermarkets ( offline ) to online shopping. As a result, this created significant growth in e-commerce. In addition, competition breeds innovation and companies that continue to innovate will win in the long run. I am optimistic about JD.ID’s current performance and can become one of the dominant players.
How is JD.ID positioning among other e-commerce ? What are the challenges and solutions?
Our customers love JD.ID because of the #DijaminOri tagline . They have trusted us to always sell genuine products. This promise we have lived and breathed upon by our brand over the years. Our challenge is to honor that trust as we grow supply and demand in the e-commerce business model on this side.
What is JD.ID’s strategy in the midst of a pandemic?
Our company mission is Make Joy Happen . During the pandemic, we strive to bring happiness to all customers across the country by providing a safe, reliable and fast shopping application with high quality and original products.
This year, the e-commerce sector is growing rapidly, how do you take advantage of this momentum? What action will be taken?
People have been shopping online more on an online basis during the pandemic. I believe this behavior will continue to increase in the coming years. As they shop more online , they will also expect more. So, as a JD.ID marketing, I challenge my team to continue to innovate and meet evolving customer expectations.
What is the target for this year?
Currently, I see many opportunities to grow my business and team. We still have a lot to develop, considering that I recently started my journey at JD.ID.
